Tourists can travel from Kedarnath to Badrinath by two different routes:
- Kedarnath to Badrinath via Chopta
- Kedarnath to Badrinath via Rudraparayag
Kedarnath to Badrinath via Chopta
Kedarnath to Badrinath via Chopta is the shortest route for this trip. It starts from Gaurikund (the last accessible place to Kedarnath). Kedarnath to Badrinath distance through this route is around 210 km. This route will take 8 to 10 hours, depending on your vehicle.
While travelling through this route, you can visit Copta and Tungnath, which are parts of Punch Kendra.This area is filled with stunning natural scenery. Both your spirit and intellect will be revived.
Route detail:
- Gaurikund to Kund ( Near Ukhimath ): Both routes to Badrinath share this initial segment of road as their starting point. The path is diverted after Kund. One route passes through Chopta, while the other does so through Rudraprayag.
- Kund to Chopta: At kund, if you take a left turn, it will lead to ukhimath, then chopta. Kund to Chopta is around 40 km. Ukhimath is the main town on this route. Omkareshwar temple (6 months in winter, Kedarnath is worshipped here) is located in Ukhimath.
- Chopta – Gopeshwar – Chamoli: Following Chopta, a deep forest begins; this path is lovely and full of scenics. this route is around 45 km.
- Chamoli – Joshimath – Badrinath: The route’s last stretch is this one. It is around 100 km away.
Kedarnath to Badrinath via Rudraparayag
The other route from Kedarnath to Badrinath is via Rudraprayag. About 20 to 25 km longer than the earlier road trip. You can encounter traffic bottlenecks on this road because it is the primary one for Badrinath and Kedarnath. When there is a breakdown on another route, people use this one.
Kund – Rudraprayag – Chamoli : At Kund, when you take a right turn, it will lead to the Rudraparayag route to Badrinath. After Rudraprayag, turn towards Chamoli Road.
